                                          MUSIC OF INDIA

Our country India is a large and beautiful nation. We see everything over here; we see mountains, rivers, the ocean, forests and deserts. Lots of people live here; some of them live on mountains, some at the land beside rivers, some of them live near the sea and some live in the deserts. They speak different languages, eat different kinds of food, wear different clothes and their music is also different, but all of them are Indians.

Maybe some of us live in Punjab, in Gujarat, in Haryana, in Tamil Nadu, Goa, West Bengal, Assam, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh or in any other place, but all of us are Indians and all of us are brothers and sisters. We must love and respect each other. We must respect each other’s dresses, languages, art & music. Music is the language of the soul and it unites all people in our country. As we can understand each other better through music, we will learn about the music of a few places of India.

1. Music of India: Himachal Pradesh

At first we will know about Himachal Pradesh. Himachal Pradesh is a very beautiful state, on a part of the Himalaya Mountain. People living over there are also very simple and beautiful. Their music is also very simple and beautiful. They sing in their mother tongue, which is Himachali. After a hard day’s work they put energy in singing and dancing together. They sing during their rituals and festivals too.

There are different kinds of songs in different parts of Himachal Pradesh and it even differs according to the occasion. Roopshu, Mohna, Sirmaur, Joori, Samskara and Ainchaliyan are few of them. But all the tunes are very simple and beautiful. Usually they don’t use too many musical instruments except at festival time. They play instruments like Flute or Bishudi, Algoja (twin flutes), Raba, Ektara, Manjira, Jhanjh, Dafale, Dhol, Hudka etc. These musical instruments are played along with their singing and the beautiful tune travels through the air across the beautiful green valley.
